About us
Who we are
Kufamosha Information Disability Centre (KIDC) is a community-based organization dedicated to supporting the inclusion, dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.
We work with persons with disabilities, caregivers, families, communities, government institutions, service providers, and partners to improve access to information, services, opportunities, and support.
Our work focuses on practical community-based solutions that help persons with disabilities participate more fully in society.
Our Story
Kufamosha Drama Group began working with persons with disabilities in 2014. Through years of engagement with communities, we observed that many persons with disabilities and their caregivers faced significant challenges and required greater care, support, information, and access to services.
This realization inspired the establishment of the Kufamosha Information Disability Centre, which was officially founded on 15 September 2020.
The Centre was established through the generosity of a community member who volunteered land and accommodation, providing a place to stay and space to establish an office. The Centre was initially located at Oshimpangwa shOngete in Omuthiyagwiipundi Constituency, Oshikoto Region.
Following its establishment, the founding Management Committee met to define the organization’s objectives and develop strategies for reaching and supporting persons with disabilities in the community.
Outreach teams were then deployed to identify and engage persons with disabilities who could benefit from the Centre’s services. Among the first individuals they met were Foibe Nuuyoma and Paulina Petrus, who later became actively involved in the organization.
When the team first met Ms. Paulina Petrus, it became clear that she required urgent support. On 30 April 2021, she was taken to Omuthiya Hospital for professional counselling, where she received assistance from Ms. Ester Nefungo.
Following discussions by the Management Committee, a decision was made to welcome Ms. Petrus into the Centre’s support program.
Since joining the Centre, Ms. Petrus has become part of a caring and supportive community. Together, we have shared meals, participated in activities, exercised, and supported one another through life’s challenges.
Over time, her well-being improved significantly. Her journey demonstrated the positive impact that care, inclusion, and community support can have on the lives of persons with disabilities.
This spirit continues to guide KIDC today.
